Diary Of A Busker Day 307 Friday November 16th Winchester High Street (1. opposite Vodafone, Time: 12:49-1:53pm, 2. opposite Bellis, Time: 2:11-3:03pm).
I’m visited by Carol of The North – ‘I’m thinking of having my tea outside today’ she says. ‘Outside?’ I say, ‘Well I hope you enjoy it – it’s a bit cold for me.’ ‘Ah, you forget where I’m from’ she says. ‘I know where you’re from – Newcastle. My father’s from Sunderland’ (I know that’ll wind her up). ‘Ah, what am I doin’ talkin’ to you, with your father from Sunderland?!’ That makes me laugh. ‘Yeah, I know – I’m the enemy.’ I remember I have to speak very loudly to her, as she’s pretty deaf – almost as much as me. She really needs a hearing aid, I don’t know why she hasn’t got one.
…during the set, a man walks by with a huge dog – white and fluffy. It’s more like a small bear – or a medium, more like.
Famous Downs Syndrome actor Tom appears with his new girlfriend, Katie. They start dancing then Tom does the usual – stands next to me and ruffles my hair. Only this time he does it for longer and much more aggressively than usual. What’s all that about?! Maybe he’s trying to impress his girlfriend. I ask if they’re engaged yet. ‘Maybe next year’ he says.
During my toilet break I have an amazing find – there is HOT water coming out of the hot taps! Oh, joyousness.
After the last set, I’m walking past the God-Begot Pizza restaurant and I see the huge dog resting in front of the door, it’s lead tied to the door handle. It’s so big no one can get past it! I get my camera out just as the dog’s owner emerges from the restaurant. The beast gets up. Two girls want to have their picture taken with the dog – a request the owner must be used to. While he’s chatting to them, I get my own picture – I’ll stick it in my album!
