Diary Of A Busker Day 494 Tuesday January 14th 2014 Winchester (Opposite Oxfam, Time: 3:27-4:12pm).
A depressing 45 minutes in which the total earnings came to less than half the usual hourly rate. The high point was seeing Delia, who I haven’t seen for awhile. Of course, she ignored my usual protestations and pressed the pound (alliteration!) into my palm (more alliteration!) I was doing Wouldn’t It Be Nice when she ambled up, and I did her favourite – Dr. Zhivago – while she was there. She asked if I’d seen the film – I haven’t, and I don’t know anything about it, apart from there’s snow in it and Omar Sharif’s in it. I was informed it’s set in Russia, so that’s something else I know…apart from the theme.
After that, I play something else – the Elvis one, and watch Delia wander off to get her bus. In front of the Guildhall, she pauses before she crosses the road, to get to the bus station. It’s a bit of an obstacle course, with coaches, taxis and cars, and that’s right where the road widens out, too. She makes it across alright, though – using her shopping trolley as a bumper! Not bad for a 5′ 3″ lady who must be almost 90! I suppose I could learn alot from some of these people.
Earnings: £3.70p
