Diary Of A Busker Day 696

Diary Of A Busker Day 696 Wednesday February 25th 2015 Winchester (Opposite Vodafone, Time: 3:13-5:25pm).

A mild day, for once. In fact, compared to the last few weeks, it’s positively tropical! And it put me in an almost good mood: a rare occurrence indeed. The other thing that put me in a good mood was a man buying both CDs. I did him a deal: £14. And I was grateful, especially as I hadn’t sold any for a couple of weeks, so the next song I played after he went off – La Vie En Rose, was particularly jaunty, reflecting my happiness at my good fortune. In fact, I was so happy I even attempted The Sweeney, one of several songs resurrected on this happy day…and I messed the first half up and the whole thing’s only 40 seconds!

Chet enthusiast Mr. Wilkinson came by, so I told him about the old guy who was asking after him the other day, though he didn’t seem too bothered about who it was. George was going on about the weather – ‘I hope it will be summer soon’. I said it was great today, and that, compared to yesterday, today’s like summer. True. And my playing is alot better, I’m sure. I could play the faster ones, like Black Mountain Rag, a lot easier. I can’t play that one at all when it’s cold. I did it the other day and it was terrible.

George asked if I’d got any gigs so I told him about the wedding in Alton in May. The couple got back to me (unusual) and I said I’d do it not for £180 but £170, which is still more than some other gigs I’ve done for playing two hours. I checked and they were all about £150. George said he’d keep his ‘eyes and ears open’, and I thought ‘what about opening your wallet?’, because he didn’t contribute!

The other ones I’ve neglected but resurrected today were: Horizons – Song Of The Day, because that’s when the bloke came over about the CDs (and it’s not on either of them!), the 5th Gnossienne – Phillip’s favourite (I didn’t see him today but I want that one to be up to scratch if I decide to play it when he’s about), The Rain Song, which I got through OK, and The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly (all three of them!), which I messed up.

So, 2 hours and 12 minutes straight through, and for once the feet weren’t freezing and even the hands were OK. And I was so relieved I didn’t get into one of the awful depressions.

Earnings: £31.55p (including 2 CDs)
