Day 2594

Diary Of A Busker Day 2594 Thursday September 4th 2025 Winchester.

Another day, another dollar. A damn sight more than that, I hope! Mind you, going by the last couple of days, I’ll be lucky to get even that. Down to the crossroads, where I haven’t been for some time…and it did get off to a good start. A woman came up, said her family really enjoy my CDs, and handed me a tenner! Now that’s what I call being appreciated.

A man in his late 70’s(?) comes up after Cavatina…

‘You must be psychic’ he says.

‘Must I be?’

‘I was thinking “I wonder if he plays Cavatina” and then you started playing it!’

‘Really? Wow, maybe I AM psychic! Or maybe it’s just coincidence. One of those things. Then again, there are strange things in this world.’

‘I saw John Williams.’

‘Really?’

‘Yeah.’

‘When was that?’

‘Oh, in the 1980’s.’

‘Right…and where was that?’

‘In Birmingham at the NEC and I got his autograph.’

‘Wow, have you still got it?’

‘Yes.’

And that was it, he then went off. No donation. So much for being psychic. Thinking about it, that would certainly help things along; if I could read someone’s mind as they’re walking by and immediately conjure up their favourite song. As it is, there were only a handful of donations and the end result was £16.05 for two hours of solid playing. I think I might stop playing here during the week. The summer’s ended, the tourists are few and it seems a waste of time. Four hours and twenty minutes – the total for the last three days, has earned me £34.41. I was usually doing better than that when I started, almost 15 years ago. Oh well, Julia Florida was a bit better after some rehearsal at home and Everybody Wants To Rule The World is taking shape…and I only repeated one song, Here Comes The Sun, in the whole two hours…and at least it didn’t rain, for once.
