Day 2617

Diary Of A Busker Day 2617 Tuesday October 21st 2025 Winchester.

It looks like the rainy season is upon us so it’s important to get out and about whenever there’s a spot of sunshine and I’m back out with the shiny 6-string at the top spot. It’s graduation day and the town centre is full of graduate’s family members, many I suspect are from out of town, which is good for me as many probably haven’t heard me before so I’m not part of the furniture to be walked past and ignored.

After Life On Mars?, a man asks what I was just playing. I tell him just as my old friend Ed from the open mic days of 2006/07 at The Railway walks by. Ed says ‘That was the song he wrote after his lyrics for My Way were rejected.’ ‘Well, I’m glad to see you’re up on your Bowie, Ed.’ I then have a “good deed for the day” moment, pick up my Billy Balloon album and hand it to Ed. ‘Oh, I haven’t got…’ ‘It’s OK, Ed, you can have it. I don’t want any money for it.’

I manage 48 minutes before it starts drizzling and quickly escalates to a ferocious downpour, necessitating a very quick “rig down” and shelter in The Pentice. After a few minutes it’s clear the deluge isn’t going to relent so I take myself and the guitar in to Nero’s, leaving the equipment case in the back of the bike, while keeping a watch on it from a table near the entrance. After nursing a large white Americano for the length of the first set, the rain finally stops and I’m out again, this time for just over an hour before I’m called back home to mash some potatoes for dinner.

The arm problem is still causing me some considerable concern and I’ve narrowed it down to something called medial epicondylitis, or golfer’s elbow and I might have to call on the services of an osteopath for help. I reckon it’s either that or, I dread to say it, arthritis.

The coinage is a respectable £45.03.
