Day 2695
Wednesday May 20th 2026
Southampton
As I was walking to the ticket barrier in Southamton, an big American bloke came up and said ‘You on the ships? You playin’ on the ships?’ I said I wasn’t but I’d done a bit of that years ago. ‘Oh, I thought ’cause you got a guitar, you were playin’ on the ships.’ I said again that I wasn’t. ‘This is my first cruise. What’s it like?’
‘Well, I’ll tell you something. No matter how big the ship is, the longer you’re on it, the smaller it gets, if you know what I mean.’
Anyway, second day on the trot in the big city and why not, because it went so well yesterday. While walking through the mall, a young bloke passed and said ‘Back to Southampton, for a bit more, eh?’ ‘Yeah, hopefully’ I said, referring to the great coinage of yesterday. However, yesterday is history and today wasn’t nearly the same. For a kick off, the middle spot – in front of the mass entrance, was out, due to a young woman singing with backing tracks. So it was up at the top again. Anyway, for whatever reason, the coinage was a lot less and I took £25.78 (after the train fare) for an hour and 55 minutes. I cut it short by five minutes as I wanted to pack up,walk to the station at a leisurely pace.
