Day 2294

Diary Of A Busker Day 2294 Sunday January 14th 2024 The Buttercross Winchester.

I had quite a good coinage day yesterday but it was bloody cold; just above freezing and it’s the same today. Yesterday I was down at the crossroads and managed an hour and it’ll probably be the same today.
No one at the top spot so I bagged it. A boy with a dog came up and donated and just after they left I noticed some sort of white-ish spittle or foam on the case, which I’m assuming – I’m hoping! was from the dog. Bloody typical, an almost brand new gigbag and some animal comes along and spits on it.

After Life On Mars? yesterday, a man put in a tenner, which instantly gave it Song Of The Day status. Anyway, I thought it would be nice if the whole thing was repeated today so I launched into it with extra gusto and feeling and didn’t even get a note wrong on the fast string bit at the end. The result? Sweet F.A.

I lasted an hour and a half; the fingertips were in agony well before then but I was enjoying myself so much I couldn’t stop – haha!
I played half an hour longer than yesterday for a lot less coinage, which was a bit of a bummer. When I was packing up, a street performer who shall remain nameless chatted to me. He said he’d stopped drinking; he was on a bottle of whisky a day. I said ‘well, it’s not quite Richard Burton levels but it’s still impressive.’

Before I headed off, I thought I’d do something I haven’t done in ages. I went round the corner to have a look at the prayer board in The Church of St Lawrence. The cards have Please Pray for written on them and people write underneath that. Here are three: Please Pray for my grandad to come back alive (by Clarissa aged 7), Please Pray for all people who work in banks, shops, bars and cafe(s) who deal with the public every day, and Please Pray for Nick Artemiou That God would restore his hearing and that he would see dentist for teeth. Well, I hope God was listening and he restored Mr Artemiou’s hearing.
Maybe I should give it a go myself. I mean what have I got to lose? Actually, while I’m at it I might add …and please make my hands less sensitive to the cold so I can play my Gretsch Electromatic guitar (in Cadillac Green) longer for the good people of this fair town.
