Diary Of A Busker Day 2440 Sunday September 15th 2024 Winchester.
I thought I’d bring in the double-neck as I’d given it a rest for a couple of weeks. I also thought I’d give the shop people around The Buttercross a rest…from ME! I mean, I’ve done some pretty long sessions there lately, and on consecutive days. Fortunately, The Square is free and it’s a nice sunny day.
Well, I’d done no more than two songs when the inevitable happened. Yes, it’s the arrival of Claire. This is getting ridiculous – she even said ‘I was going up the street over there (the high street) and I thought “Oh, I’ll just come here,” because I never usually do, you know, and I could hear this music…and it’s YOU! Well, I hope you don’t think I’m following you about!’
‘No, of course not!’
As usual, Claire was there the whole duration – that’s two hours. Oh well, she had a good time, watching the children do their chalk doodles on the pavement, talking to them, dancing with the odd passer-by. All this was good, as it distracted her from me, because she tends to look me right in the face the entire time she’s dancing and I find this quite unnerving, so I tend to keep my eyes on the guitar or ground when she’s with me.
Also as usual, the double-neck got it’s fair share of attention. One bloke took some photos of it but no one ever sees the back, with the Prisoner penny farthing symbol, so I insisted he see it and photograph it!
Anyway, all that was two days ago. Yesterday morning, I walked into town and Claire was there at 10:30 dancing to a young singer bloke at the entrance to the alley opposite Marks & Spencer, and I thought ‘Good, someone else can take over for me for today!’
