Day 2500

Diary of A Busker Day 2500 Sunday March 9th 2025 Winchester.

My 2,500th day out, so a landmark day…and the first day back after a 12 day vacation without a guitar, so I’m wondering if I’ve forgotten anything. At least the temperature’s warmed up a bit since I’ve been gone – it’s around 15 degrees. Quite an uneventful two hours, which I don’t mind. In fact, the most exciting event was when a woman sitting on a suitcase, zipped by almost knocking a couple of people over as she entered the cathedral grounds behind me. It was the first time I’ve ever seen one of those motorised suitcases and verily blew my mind. They’re not cheap, though; I looked them up when I got back home and you can’t get them for under £500, although some sort of driving test should be included in the price.

The takings were good. In addition to around £20 in coinage, I received three fivers, two £5 donations via the QR scanning code, and most impressive of all, a tenner from a bloke from Brazil who was waiting for his wife and daughter to emerge from the museum. He was a nice man and quite chatty at the end when I was packing up so I took the opportunity to show him the Jonathan Chapman greetings card with me on the front, which was on the museum card stand. I didn’t bother to tell him about the St. Clements wall mural, which I go by every time I cycle into town! Anyway, I ended up doing two hours and repeating only two songs with a minimum of mistakes, so that was a relief.
