Day 2622

Day 2622
Wednesday November 5th 2025
Winchester High Street, outside Nando’s.

Back out with the shiny Squier and today there are no out-of-practise embarrassing moments like yesterday’s Gymnopedie fiasco. The first song, Albatross, earned me no less than £20! Firstly, a “two CDs for £15” purchase from a foreign woman who I didn’t mind interrupting me to enquire about the CDs, then resuming the song and a donation of a fiver and then a £2 coin before the end. Albatross – Song Of The Day, hands down.
I had another bit of luck not long after when Jake, a young chap donated a tenner – ‘I’ve heard you so many times and never given you anything, so you deserve this. Great stuff and keep playing, mate!’ Now that’s the sort of compliment I can do with more of!

Dean Dyson came by – he’d been at the Buttercross since the morning and I’d put a fiver in his case. He thanked me for it as I don’t think it had gone too well. I know what it’s like, when things aren’t going well and then you get a fiver or better still, a tenner or even a magic purple one, which is very rare but not unknown. Dean was talking about one of these online fund me things, I think it was called Patreon. I wouldn’t do it myself but he’s thinking of it. Dean works a lot harder than I do!

Anyway, the second hour was a lot less lucrative than the first and the total amount earned was £44.15 – perfectly acceptable for a two hour stint. Weather was fine, temperature 15 degrees. That’s one of the advantages of global warming – it’s good for buskers in the winter! I haven’t seen the Nando’s bloke/one of the managers since my letter. I wonder if he’s read it? Haha! Nothing else to note…apart from a young woman wearing a black sweatshirt with white writing declaring “I Am Afraid Of Women” – what’s all that about?!

Earnings: £44.15
