Day 2652
Sunday February 1st 2026
Winchester
Once again, a quick dash between showers and the top spot’s free. The temperature is fine as there’s no wind…unfortunately, it starts to drizzle very slightly a few minutes after I start up. Nothing too worrying…it stops briefly but then starts again. I soldiered on!
Around the half hour mark an amazing thing occurred…I SOLD AN ALBUM! It was to a young guy – ‘Is that you?’ he asked, on seeing the album propped up in the case.
‘Yeah, it’s one of my albums of original music. I have to warn you, it’s not like what I play out here.’
‘That’s OK, I see you out here all the time. How much?’
‘It’s twenty pounds.’
‘Great, I’ll take it off your hands,’ and he gets a nice purple one from his pocket and hands it to me.
‘That’s great, that’s made my day and I hope you like it.’ And it really did make my day. I sell a lot of the instrumental CDs because that’s what people see me doing here, maybe a book occasionally, but very rarely an album, so it really is a cause for celebration…
…unlike the rain, which has become worse. In fact, at the end I AM literally playing in the rain and have to stop after 55 minutes – I wanted to make the hour but i’d be drenched. As I’m unplugging the amp, a man walks by and says ‘Well, that’s dedication.’
‘It’s more like stupidity!’ I say. Actually, I wonder if I COULD get electrocuted by a small battery-powered amplifier.
Total earnings £29.67 (including £13 profit from the album)
