Day 2654
Friday February 6th 2026
Another dash for the town in between showers and the top spot’s free…but not from showers – it starts drizzling even before I’ve started playing – ‘For fuck’s sake, is this fucking rain ever going to fuck off?!’ I utter quite audibly. Well, it did stop…then started again – just lightly, and it did that another couple of times during the hour and 20 minutes I was there.
Some dodgy bloke came up to me recently down at Nando’s. He says a few words then walks off shouting. He turned up today, said something unintelligible then walked off shouting. He disappeared down the alley, came back waving a briefcase about, then to the bin at the end of The Pentice to rummage around along with the homeless woman who has a shopping cart. They had to stop when the friendly binman (he always says “Alright?” to me) came to empty the bin.
Halfway through I noticed a young woman was sketching me – she was standing in the middle of the street, which was weird as they usually sit down when they sketch. Anyway, I was the one sitting down and I thought I’d better stay like that as long as she was doing her work. After twenty minutes or so she comes up and presents me with the finished work – ‘I’m sorry, I don’t have any money. I’m at art school!’ (I wonder how many times that’s been said over the years). Anyway, I thank her. She’s written her name but the writing’s so small I can’t make it out. Something like Caitlyn (or Carolyn) Street. I’ll put it with the rest of the sketches that have been handed to me over the years!
By the time I’m done, there’s another dark grey cloud moving in so best pack up quick and bugger off. The takings were £17.90, so a slight improvement on Wednesday.
