Day 2690

Day 2690
Sunday May 10th 2026
Winchester

A windy day in The Square and a short session – only an hour and ten minutes. That massive fish is still a big presence here, its majestic form now scared by children’s chalk doodles. And that omnipresent photographer is still lurking about. No photos of me this time but he did crouch down to take some photos of a man sitting on the bench to my right. Very blatant – he never asked his permission. The bloke must have been aware of him but he kept his head down in his paper. I think I would have asked permission to do that.

The area isn’t peopled like yesterday but there’s a constant stream going and coming from the cathedral grounds,up Market Street and the alleyway from the Buttercross so no excuse for lack of coinage…but there is indeed a distinct lack! At the end of an hour I’ve got four quid so I decide to do another few songs then I’m off. And in that time a man comes up and asks if I’d like a beer – he hasn’t got any change. I thank him and say I’m fine and have to go home then suddenly see the QR code bit of paper – ‘Ah, you can direct your phone to that, if you like. It definitely works…or it did yesterday.’
Well, he does that and a few minutes later while on the way home, I check my phone and he’s donated no less than…a FIVER. Which means he’s responsible for just under half of the takings of £10.27!
And…I really need to sort out the fret levelling on the 12-string, as it’s really starting to bother me.
