Day 2697

Day 2697
Friday May 29th 2026
Winchester

A hot day of around 25 degrees…I’ve got my stone suit from Next (without the waistcoat) and a yellow linen Reiss shirt – very posh, and with the red Rickenbacker guitar I look like a bloody blancmange! Which reminds me I must contact Jimmy to see if he’s done any work on the Faith because I want it for the Valley Day gig next month. I’m in The Square in the shade, fortunately…but unfortunately, I brought the wrong capo – a straight one not the curved one, so the high E strings are a bit muted because they aren’t making the right contact with the frets and this really annoys me, as there are a few important songs that rely on the capo, like Wouldn’t It Be Nice, Anjie, and most of all, Here Comes The Sun. With Tales Of The Unexpected and the Elvis one, I can get away without the capo.

Anyway, it puts me in a bit of a frustrated mood so when a bloke comes up to interrupt me in the middle of Everybody Wants To Rule The World, I’m a bit short with him, though I could have been a lot shorter! It’s possible he’s one of the many men who come up and have a chat. He might have done it a few times before and I might not have minded, being in a more amicable frame of mind. All these men seem to look the same – 60-70, a bit chubby, bearded and usually wearing a baseball cap…or maybe it’s the same bloke but in slightly different clothes! Anyway, he comes up, says something but I can’t hear him because of the music, so I stop –
‘Sorry?’
‘Weymouth and Dorset are having a festival this weekend.’
‘What?’
‘Weymouth and Dorset are having a festival this weekend, someone just told me.’
‘It means nothing to me, I’m just here playing music!’ Which was a bit of an odd thing to say, thinking about it. I mean, what I wanted to say was ‘And you interrupted me just to tell me that?!’
Anyway, he said ‘Oh, OK’ and wandered off to the cathedral grounds. And apart from him, there were no real interactions apart from the occasional nice comment after a fiver (there were two) and a tenner (one) were delivered into the case. Total coinage/noteage was £36.80 for a two hour set. Unfortunately, I got a headache a bit later, which lasted all night – too much sun, maybe?!
