Day 2708

Day 2708
Sunday June 21st 2026
Winchester

The traditional Sunday spot in The Square is free but there’s not much shade and even less as the afternoon progresses – it’s 29 degrees and I’m not going to suffer THAT much for my art, so I think I’ll pass on that for today…much to the relief of the Hambledon arse, I’m sure. Fortunately, there’s loads of shade down the road at the flower seller’s spot (and he’s not there, either) so that’ll do. The only thing is that the sound is always a bit disorientating because of the big empty space behind me. Oh well, you can’t have everything.

Not much to report – no riveting exchanges or dramatic unforeseen incidents. I got through the two hours pretty much without interruptions…a man donated then asked where the cathedral was – ‘Go through this alley, keep going – cross the road and there’s a little path, and you’ll see it, about a minute away.’
Another man donated a fiver after the Gnossienne – asked what it was so I told him ‘It’s by Erik Satie. It’s actually a piano piece – sounds really nice on the piano. A lot of people know it because it’s been in a few ads and films, but they don’t know what it’s called, so there you are. Satie, the Gnossienne, the 1st one.’

I ended with The Pirouettist, singing, or rather bum, bumming along to it…and got two donations. Result!

The next few days, up to Thursday, are going to be ridiculously hot, as in 32-35 degrees. In fact, I might have a few days of rest but if I do venture out, there’ll be no jacket required (there was none today) and I’ll need a hell of a lot of shade.

The donations came to £29.32. Oh yes, on the way home the Hambledon arse walked by on the other side of the street down from the Arbor. Haha, you’ve escaped hearing me but not seeing me. I’m always about in some way, to torment you. You’ll never be rid of me, you arse!
