Diary Of A Busker Day 9 Tuesday December 14th Winchester High Street opposite WH Smiths. Time: 12:10 – 1:50pm.
Another cold day – no sun at all. Very difficult to play more than 10 minutes and lost concentration several times – don’t know if it was to do with the cold or my general mental state! Took a long time to make any money – £5 after an hour, so I played a longer stint than usual, but kept having to warm my hands in my pockets. Also, every time I looked up – I tend to keep my head down – I saw someone I knew, like the parents of my son’s school mates. The local guitar shop owner passed by “Making your fortune, are you?” I recently had to sell a guitar I’d bought from him 2 years ago. He didn’t give any money. Then, a bit later, his wife walked past – who DID.
George from yesterday turned up – he’s still “working on getting some gigs…” He sat down on the bench opposite and I could hear him – ‘bigging me up’ to the guy sitting next to him. I thought I’d made a pound more than I actually had – but on counting the money later on, I find someone’s given me a euro – useless, as the banks won’t take them.
Earnings: £6.86p
