Diary Of A Busker Day 332 Sunday March 3rd 2013 Winchester High Street 1. Opposite Vodafone. Time: 12:32-2:25pm 2. Opposite Bellis. Time: 3:51-4:57pm
Coming into town, it’s pretty windy so I reckon I’ll be doing twenty minute sets…however, it’s not as bad as I thought, once I start playing – though it’s still cold. A couple of people comment on my purple hands.
Song Of The Day: The James Bond Theme. Just after I start, a man says ‘That’s surely worth a pound’, followed by no less than FOUR more contributions. A close runner up for SOTD is Girl, which, for its first of three outings today, gathers a fair amount of coinage. A few minutes shy of the two hour mark, Doll and her friend Zara from Andover come by and take me for a bite to eat at a place up the road which, I have to say, needs to stock up on some proper English mustard. When I asked for some for my sausage sandwich, all the waitresses could muster(d) up was some of the distinctly mild variety. It’s not English mustard, then. Not in my book.
An hour and a half later – and I really did need an hour and a half: two hours of non-stop playing and my brain was stopping and I was getting really sloppy. I don’t think I played any of the melody lines in Swedish Rhapsody without at least one wrong or missed note…anyway, an hour and a half later I was up the road for a final hour and the temperature was a couple of degrees higher, so it was no problem to do that, AND I sold two CDs, to boot. So, a total of three hours with a better than usual hourly rate.
Earnings: £44.37 (including two CDs)
