Day 2674
Thursday April 2nd 2026
Winchester
Down at the crossroads, it’s heaving with people…and lots of children off school. I have two visitors/well-wishers. Firstly, a man who’s thinking of busking for charity with his wife. He asks if he needs permission. I say he doesn’t, well not here in Winchester – ‘You do in other places like Oxford and Reading but I can’t be bothered with all that! I just set up and play although I’ve got very lazy these days and haven’t been anywhere else apart from here for ages.’ I say he just has to turn down if anyone from a shop comes out and tells him he’s too loud, or they might phone the police.
Secondly, a man wants to buy a CD to give to his son who used to listen to me but has now moved away. Apparently, I gave him encouragement and some good advice when he started busking here – ‘You want some advice on busking? Alright then – don’t bother!’ Who knows, I might have said that but I honestly can’t remember anything about him.
Well, Laughter In The Rain isn’t proving to be the money-grabber I thought it would be, which is weird as it’s a really well-known tune. Maybe it’s my performance of it…no, I’ve been playing it OK…maybe OK isn’t good enough! Oh well, you win some, etc. Anyway, the hour and twenty minute set procured an honest £17.36.
